Yet, during the 20th century in Burma, the position of a minority originating from the Bay of Bengal, the Rohingyas, gradually became that of a social scapegoat.
Today, this minority, which represents less than 2% of the country's population, finds itself in the early stages of genocide.
As in the neighbouring countries of Southeast Asia, the Buddhist religion predominates in Burma. However, Muslim communities have also populated these territories since as long ago as the 5th century AD.
As minorities, they have integrated rather well into the societies of these countries until today.
